Four questions game

Someone on the internet started this ‘four questions’ game, where people answer questions and tag each other. Nobody tagged me, but I thought I’d do it nonetheless and post my answers here, for my friends to see… and perhaps continue the game. The questions seem interesting.

Four names that people call me:

I grew up in Russia, where all names have different diminutive forms; many have more than one such form.

  • Olga – my official name for documents, as well as what people call me in Canada.
  • Olya – my mom and my Russian friends call me that.
  • Olechka – my mom calls me when she wants to express her love.
  • Olyushka – my aunt calls me that sometimes.

Four jobs that I have had:

  • Grocery store employee
  • Computer programmer
  • Journalist
  • Writer

Four movies that I have watched more than once:

  • Undercover Blues
  • How to Steal a Million
  • Victor and Victoria
  • Darling Lily
  • … and many more

Four books I’d recommend:

It’s hard for me to recommend specific books. I’d rather recommend my favorite authors.

  • Jennifer Crusie – modern romance
  • Sharon Shinn – fantasy
  • Georgette Heyer – historical romance
  • Dorothy Sayers – mystery

Four places I have lived:

There are only three; I haven’t lived anywhere else

  • Moscow, Russia
  • Tel Aviv, Israel
  • Vancouver, Canada

Four places I have been:

  • London, England
  • Alaska (cruise)
  • Mexico (cruise)
  • San Francisco, USA

There are more…

Four places I’d rather be right now:

  • Louvre, Paris, France
  • A bus trip around Vienna, Austria
  • Ballet performance at the Mariinski Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia
  • A boulangerie in Montreal, Canada. They have the best pastries I’ve ever tried.

Four things I don’t eat:

  • Raw onion
  • Raw garlic
  • Raw meat
  • Raw fish

Alas, there are many more – I have tons of allergies.

Four of my favorite foods:

  • Chocolate
  • Pastry
  • Coffee
  • Pasta

Four TV shows that I’ve watched:

  • Bones
  • Midsomer Murders
  • Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
  • Murdoch Mysteries

Four things I’m looking forward to this year:

  • A trip to Israel to visit my mom. She is 82.
  • Buying a new computer (not looking forward to, rather dreading, but it seems a necessary step)
  • Finding a new monkey for my collection. Currently I have about 300 monkeys. It’s hard to find a new one I don’t already have.
  • Discovering a new bakery in Vancouver

Four things I’m always saying:

  • It’s raining (it’s often raining in Vancouver)
  • I’ve read a wonderful book lately
  • Nobody is buying my novels (a self-pitying whine)
  • What do they do now? (I mean my characters in a story I’m working on)

Four people I tag:

  • My friend, you know who you are
  • My friend, you know who you are
  • My friend, you know who you are
  • My friend, you know who you are
