I started reading this book but couldn’t finish it. I know many readers who are in raptures over it, but for me, it felt pretentious like a home-made myth. Beautiful writing but lots of unnecessary explanations and contemplations. The story seems buried in literary form. And like any myth, most of the heroes’ emotions are left out of the narrative.
It reminded me a little of Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, which is not a compliment. I didn’t finish that one either. I’m not saying it’s a bad book. All I’m saying is I didn’t like it – I was bored. Maybe if I was better versed in Norse mythology or even interested in the topic, I would’ve appreciated this novel better.
